The Orphanage - 2007

The Orphanage
An earlier film from the Spanish director of 'The Impossible', 'The Orphanage' tell the story of a woman who brings her husband and her adopted son back to the house where she once lived.  It was a home for Orphans, as she was, and she intended to return the house to its former status, as an Orphanage.

Only the house now holds secrets from her past.  Secrets about the children she once played with.  After after finding out he is adopted, the boy reveals that he was told by his new friend.  A friend that is invisible to his parents.  He pleads with his mother to visit his friend in the cabin, but she shakes it off as a childish game.  Until she realises that her son has gone missing, and the answer lies in her own past.  If she has any hope of finding her son, she must play one last game.

The Orphanage was nominated 36 times and won 34 awards.  This film has a Gothic feel to it, and I do love a Gothic story.  For me it is in the ending, I also love a good ending, it's one that is...unexpected.  I hope you enjoy this film as much as I did.
